If you are an out-of-state resident, you are required to file your own Accident Report with DMV. If the police department files a police report, you are required to file your own Accident and Insurance Report with DMV. Please do not mail or fax reports already sent by email. Save your sent email (with the report) and the auto-reply received from DMV. If you fail to report the accident to DMV it may result in suspension of your driving privileges. Email to DMV will send an auto-reply confirming that your email was received. If you are unable to file within the 72 hours submit it as soon as possible. Drivers must file an accident report with the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) within 72 hours of a car accident when: It results in injury, death, or property damage over 2,500 (including vehicle damage, even if your vehicle was the only vehicle damaged in the accident), or. Oregon Law requires these reports be filed within 72 hours of the accident excluding holidays and weekends. ♺ny vehicle involved in an accident and is towed from the scene as a result of damages ♽amage to any one person's property over $1,500 Keep a copy of the report and documentation that shows when you submitted your report to Oregon DMV. NOTE: if an investigation or court action of the case is in progress the report is not releasable until the case is closed /completed.Refer to the back of the impound sheet for more information. Police reports submitted to the department under this section are subject to release or use as provided under ORS 802.240 (Driver and vehicle records as evidence). Police report requests are available through the sheriff’s office during their normal business hours. This includes releases for impounded vehicles. The Cornelius Police Department Records division is handled through the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
